Rules of Report Writing:
a) Read the outline or hints carefully and thoroughly until you have grasped a clear idea of the topic given in outlines.
b) Begin the event in a direct and straightway without any preface or an introduction.
c) Follow the orders or sequence of the points given in the outlines. Don’t omit any point.
d) Connect a different point in a logical manner with suitable connectors or phrases so as to make it a meaningful passage.
e) The report should be written in a simple language. It should be brief but clear. It should be a coherent piece of composition and must not be mass of loose, disjointed sentences.
f) The sentences in a report should be written in a passive voice as far as practicable.
g) Place and time of reporting must be mentioned
h) The report must have a suitable heading or an attractive title.
i) Remember that it is the only practice that makes you perfect.

1) Study the following information and write a report thereon for a newspaper.

A ROAD ACCIDENT
Guwahati,19th May :
It was the busy office hours of a weekday. Buses, taxis, cars were playing on the busy G.S Road near the state transport workshop, Ulubari. Two minibuses running from the opposite directions collided head-on with each other. A calf ran across the street and the driver of the minibuses coming from Dispur side tried to avoid running over the calf but lost control and dashed against another minibus from paltanbazar side. People ran towards the spot of the accident. Two persons instantly died and seven other people’s mourned by the people at large.
One Important Report Writing:

FLOOD CAUSES HAVOC IN NALBARI, DISTRICT
Nalbari, July 7th: The whole of Nalbari district has been in the grip of a terrible flood for the last few days following incessant rains for a week. The flood situation turned critical today following at 30ft. breach on the embankment of the paladin river. Road communication through the national highway -31 has been cut off as surging floodwaters inundated a portion of the highway. Many people have taken shelter on the railway lines. Many huts have been washed away. The army has-been pressed into service to rescue the marooned people. Reliefs camps have been opened in some schools but the relief provided so far is quite inadequate. There has been a scarcity of drinking water.
